Climbing Mount Le Morne
Le Morne Brabant is one of Mauritius’ most iconic natural landmarks, known for its dramatic scenery, rich history, and rewarding panoramic views.
Le Morne Brabant is a striking mountain on the Le Morne Peninsula in the southwest of Mauritius. Recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2008, it is an important part of the island’s history and natural heritage.
Today, it is one of Mauritius’ most preserved and unspoilt natural areas, home to a variety of endemic plant species, including the rare Trochetia Boutoniana, the national flower of Mauritius.
The hike to the summit usually takes between 3 and 4 hours, depending on fitness level and hiking experience. It is a challenging climb and is not generally recommended for young children or anyone who struggles with steep terrain. Those who reach the top are rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views that make the effort worthwhile.
