Le Morne is a mountain in the southwest of Mauritius, on the Le Morne peninsula. The site has been declared a world heritage site by UNESCO since 2008. In the past it was a refuge for escaped slaves who would commit suicide by jumping off the mountain cliff.
Today it is one of the most preserved and wildest mountains of the island. It is a habitat for a very large variety of endemic species, such as the rare red Trochetia Boutoniana, which is the symbol of the conserved flowers of Mauritius.
The climb to the top of the mountain lasts between three and four hours, depending on the knowledge of mountain climbing. The climb is not intended for children and those who have difficulty climbing. With all the difficulty in the ascent – at the end of the ascent we will discover breathtaking panoramic views that will be worth all the hard way.
Cost : about 2800 Mauritian rupees per person in the group
Length : three-four hours (depending on knowledge of mountain climbing)
It is recommended to be equipped with : comfortable shoes, mosquito spray, sunscreen, hat and water.
